I’m doing this Meme for my best friend Robin. I don’t usually do these. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s an attention issue 😉 Anyway, Robin tagged me so here we go:
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Hmm, both. Mostly wrapping paper though. But there are some dang cute gift bags out there too. And I am going to need at least 2 boxes to wrap great big soft things in.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
Artificial. It’s better for the environment and you don’t have to buy it every year.
3. When do you put up the tree?
When I get to it 🙂 It’s usually the week after Thanksgiving. When I worked graveyard shifts it was very near the last minute. The kids were younger and didn’t seem to care so much but now they start asking when I’ll put it up before we even have Thanksgiving dinner.
4. When do you take the tree down?
Again, when I get to it. I guess I don’t share Robin’s superstition. Usually the tree goes down the week after Christmas.
5. Do you like eggnog?
I probably like eggnog a little too much for my own good. Hubby has been bringing it home practically every week. All those calories…
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
I have to mention 2. I had a wooden cradle that I just loved when I was a girl. My mom let me bring it home for Tianna just a few months ago. Yay!
My other favorite was a Baby in a Blanket doll that I’m pretty sure my mom crocheted for me. I loved that doll! I wish I still had her to pass on to Tianna but I loved her so much her hands fell off. I guess I’ll just have to get busy and make Tianna her very own 🙂 I looked and looked but can’t find an image to show what this doll was like. I did find a pattern though if anyone is interested 😉
7. Hardest person to buy for?
Not saying. It might get back to them.
8. Easiest person to buy for?
Definitely the kids. They are easy to figure out. Especially the older boys. Practically every commercial they see has them turning to me and saying “Wow! Can we have that?!?” Natural born consumers.
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
I have a very small glass nativity that was given to us when we first got married. Also, when I was still working graveyard shifts, I worked a couple of extra hours one year and picked up the Little People Nativity set for the kids so they can help re-enact the Christmas story.
10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
I think mailing an actual card is a nice gesture.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I can’t really think of anything.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
Definitely A Christmas Story. We watch it every year.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Usually after Thanksgiving. I start making gifts by September though. This year, I have been making my Christmas gifts all year long!
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
Danish Pastry. So so yummy!
16. Lights on the tree?
Yes. We have white ones that are pre-strung on the tree. About half of them actually work. (It’s time to replace the old tree) So we have a couple of strands of colored lights on the tree too.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
Hehe – I just answered this one on Ravelry.
One of my favorites is from the Children’s Hymns – Mary’s Lullaby I’ve sung it to my babies to comfort them sometimes.
My all-time favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night.
I also love O Come Emmanuel.
Michael McLean’s Mary Let Me Hold Her Baby is another favorite.
My mom used to play one on the piano called Mary’s Lullaby and it is just so beautiful. I found a really neat story about it here. I was hoping to find an audio clip to share but it wasn’t to be. I hope you do get a chance to hear it sometime.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
We drive out to see Hubby’s mom and then we drive out to see my parent and grandparents. They are all in state so I don’t think it really counts as traveling.
19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Yes – if I sing it.
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
We have a star right now. I think it’s grapevine bent into shape and sprayed gold. It works for now but I want an Angel. Like my friend Robin, I will be very picky about her. I am currently favoring a pineapple angel – maybe I can have one crocheted by next Christmas.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
We have always opened one on Christmas Eve. It was always pajamas so we’d look nice in the pictures the next morning 🙂 Of course, it’s a tradition I’ve kept with my kids.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
I can’t think of anything. I love this time of year. Especially when I finally finish the last present and I can get all excited about giving them on Christmas day.
23. Favorite ornament theme or color?
I have often thought that I would go completely white and crocheted if/when I have the chance. But I think that won’t be the case. I like color on my tree. So even if I ever crochet a ton of ornaments, I will still put up some of the traditional ornaments. I kind of like our eclectic little collection. Many of our ornaments were given to us and I always think of the person that gave the ornament to us when I place it on the tree. I like that ❤
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner?
Honey glazed ham. I could almost eat ham every single week. Turkey is alright but ham is just delish! Especially with my butter horn rolls.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
I would like to see Robin spoiled rotten. Really. And for her hubby to find a more stable job. For me, I want to get the heart shape and flower shape Clover yo-yo makers. So cute! And that is it. I don’t have a lot but I don’t need a lot and feel so fortunate and blessed right now. As long as we are healthy, happy, have each other and can keep this roof over our head, how much more does a person need?
26. Who is most likely to blog about this?
I’m not tagging anyone. If I had, it would have been Robin and she’s already blogged about this.
27. Lights, blinking or always on?
Hmmm, for us it’s a case of what we have. I like the lights that stay on but our porch is wrapped in blinking lights because that is what we have. They were given to us or else there probably wouldn’t even be lights out there. On the tree, one strand is always on and one blinks. The kids are happy so it’s all good 🙂
This is one of my favorite times of the year. I love giving gifts. Especially gifts that I have crafted myself. It feels good to give that gift of time and thought to a loved one. Wishing a very Merry Christmas to all who will be celebrating it and Happy Holidays too! 🙂
