Last night hubby had to work late. So I stayed up a bit late to spend a little time with him. Kids are in bed, it’s past midnight and freezing outside. I think the weather widget on my toolbar said 23 degrees. Brrr!
Hubby and I are just sitting in the basement, talking about this and that, watching a little television and I was sending out some welcomes on Ravelry 🙂 Winding down the day together.
Hubby was sitting near the window. He suddenly asks me if I hear something smacking against the window. We switch the tv off and sure enough, something is banging on the window. We don’t have a tree or plant there that could be making the noise. Just a flower bed and everything is pretty much winter mush now.
Hubby raises the blinds and we don’t see anything. Nothing. Back down go the blinds and the noise starts up again. Hubby goes to the front door and… OPENS IT! (no, don’t go out there! don’t you watch scary movies?!?) While he’s standing in the doorway, I raise the blinds again. (gotta make sure my man is not being attacked by some weirdo) While I’m standing at the window, something starts smacking it about 5 inches above my face. I look up expecting to see some misguided moth pounding itself against the window, drawn by the light in our family room. Whatever it is swings outward and then back against the window – out and back again. If it’s a moth, it’s a very large one. Out and back again it swings. I get a better look. It’s a coin wrapped in tape and it appears to be taped to a wire or fishing line.
Okay, I was officially freaked out now. What this means is that some creepy walked across our front lawn (we could see the tracks) right up to our basement window. Stood in my flower bed just a thin window pane away from us. Listened to us talking (and I know hubby said at least one or two intimate things (blush)) while they taped and rigged up a fishing line to swing at our window. Then quietly trecked back out across the street (again, we could see the tracks) and started bouncing a nickel or quarter against our window just to mess with us. Who would do something like that? And in the freezing cold too?
I wanted hubby to call the police. Not that they probably could have done anything. By the time hubby dragged his boots out and found his pellet gun (yeah, not so reassuring or great protection but it’s all we’ve got) the creepy was gone. Hubby was even crazy enough to follow the footprints and try to find creepy. He’s either braver than me or crazier. Or both. Here’s hoping creepy had their fun last night and got it out of their system. And that they NEVER EVER come back! (thinks seriously about having hubby get something a little stronger than a pellet gun… and a lock box to keep it out of little hands. And not feeling too safe with thin little window panes to keep out the creepies!)
That sounds scary. Darn creeps! even when it is freezing they don’t take a break.
Oooooo…YUCK! :{ I’m so sorry you had such a fright! Hopefully the fact that your hubby went out prepared to defend your home sent a message to the creep not to try it again. Good, brave hubby!
…I’m going off to check my window locks now, K?
Yikes!!!!! That made my skin crawl! My hubby has been gone most weekends lately and I have been having trouble sleeping, now I really will! Good thing we got our dog back! Hope Mr. Creepy gets caught!
