I started this pretty baby blanket yesterday. It’s for my sis and we are so thrilled for her.
I am following the Navajo Indian Diamond Pattern on a smaller scale. I started with a foundation base of 145 single crochet. I am using Sensations Cuddle in white and also in light green. I am also using Sensations Little Treat in a green/yellow variegate. I am working double stranded so the blanket will be thick and cuddly. I love how it is turning out!
My sis went through 3 pregnancy losses in just a bit more than a year. Now, she is happily expecting a little baby boy in early December and the doctor said everything is looking great. We are happy and hopeful.
On a side note: If you didn’t know, tomorrow is also the official day for Miscarriage and Pregnancy Loss awareness. There will be the Wave of Light and also Walk to Remember events held across the states. If you know someone who’s got an angel to remember, reach out to them tomorrow and share a kind word, and maybe a hug or two, if you can 🙂
As you can imagine, I wanted this blanket to be… special, I guess. I’m not going to point all these things out to my sis but I thought I’d jot them down here – a bit of a personal remembrance of the thoughts behind the blanket.
I wanted to use green as a main color in this blanket because green is the color of life and because it is a healing color.
I did a bit of reading on it and found that a healthy infant heart rate can be anywhere in a range of 120 to 160 beats per minute. I wanted to have a stitch count in that range.
I chose to use 3 colors – sort of honoring the 3 tiny angels that left us too soon.
This blanket will have 6 full diamonds in the patterning. It wasn’t planned out to be so, but I’m delighted that it’s turned out that way. One diamond in each pattern sequence for each member currently in my sister’s family.
And of course, the finished baby afghan to welcome and celebrate the baby that will soon join us 🙂 Life is a gift most cherished and precious.
Wishing you all well,
