This little post/pattern in the rough was kicking around in my drafts just waiting for a final edit and some pics. The last date edited reads April 24th, 2010. Well, it’s finally found it’s way out of never-never land and into the blog. I hope you’ll have fun making these.
Flower Loom Footsies
Make these fun little footsies to keep your favorite baby tootsies warm and cozy.
Materials:
Loom: Large gauge loom with 12 pegs. The Knifty Knitter Flower Loom was used for the samples.
Yarn: Small amount of baby yarn. 2 strands of TLC Baby Amore in Baby Print, plus one strand of Bernat Softee Baby in Baby Pink Marl, were used in the baby girl footsies. Three strands of Sensations Cuddle in Light Green, plus one strand of Sensations Little Treat in Green/Yellow, were used in the baby boy footsies.
Notions: Tapestry Needle, Knitting Tool.
Note: Pattern is worked in the round. Work with 3 or 4 strands of a baby yarn, held together as one. If preferred, 2 strands of a soft worsted weight can be used in place of the baby yarn.
Directions:
Cuff:
Cast on 12 pegs. Join to work in the round.
Rounds 1 – 6: *K1, P1, rep from * to end of round.
Leg:
Next 10 rounds: Using the flat knit stitch, or u-wrap, knit all pegs.
Heel shaping (worked over 6 pegs):
Knit pegs 1-5, lift stitch on peg 6, wrap peg, and replace stitch.
Knit pegs 5-2, lift stitch on peg 1, wrap peg, and replace stitch.
Knit pegs 2, 3 and 4, lift stitch on peg 5, wrap peg, and replace stitch.
Knit pegs 4 and 3, lift stitch on peg 2, wrap peg, and replace stitch.
Knit pegs 3, 4 and 5 (knit both sets of loops on peg 5 over as one). Lift stitches on peg 6, wrap peg, and replace both sets of loops.
Knit pegs 5, 4, 3 and 2 (knit both sets of loops on peg 2 over as one). Lift stitches on peg 1, wrap peg, and replace both sets of loops.
Knit pegs 2-12 (knit all sets of loops on peg 6 over as one). Three sets of loops will remain on peg 1. These will be worked in the next round.
Foot:
Next 10 rounds: Using the flat knit stitch, or u-wrap, knit all pegs.
Toe:
Repeat heel shaping to create the toe.
Knit peg 1 once more.
Finishing:
Remove the slipper from the loom using basic graft cast off.
Weave in all ends and fold cuff down. Repeat pattern for second footsie.
These are so adorable! Thank you so much for posting these cuties…such an essential little pattern to have for those baby shower gifts!
Thanks, Bethany 🙂 You always say the sweetest things on my bloggie. Hugs!
I love this little pattern. They look quick and I love how portable the flower loom is. Thank you.
Thanks, Jeannette. These are easy peasy, and how nice is it to have only 2 pegs to wrap on a short row heel? The only drawback is you can only make them in one size, really. Isela has one that is done on the pink long loom (I think I’m remembering the right loom here, haha), using the loom clips. I would guess you could tinker with and customize the size a little better on that one. But these are fast and fun and would make nice little additions to a baby shower gift 🙂 Hope you have a great day!
How cute are these! Thanx so much for sharing this pattern Jenny!
You are very welcome 🙂 Glad you like the pattern. Have a great day!
Awesome! I wanna make some for Sophia, but she is so hot natured that we usually take her thin baby socks off before the evening is through. LOL!
Thanks, Robin. Sophia sounds like my kiddos. I could never keep socks and booties on their feet once they learned to pull them off by themselves 🙂
Hugs!
I just wanted to thank you for a really well explained and cute pattern! I am very new to loom knitting and happened to have the flower loom to make flowers i ended up not particularly liking so how perfect. Anyway even though i had noone to really knit these for i wanted to try them and they turned out! Thanks so much. Hope you do more patterns or better yet write a book!
Thanks, Barb. I’m so glad you liked the pattern. I’m thinking of setting up a gallery on here of projects made from my patterns. If you’d like to send me a picture, I’d love to stick it here on the blog. I have a page with free patterns on it and I have a few other designs to work up. No plans for a book though. Maybe when my life slows down a bit more. Have a great day!
Those are so sweet! I thought you might be interested in reading an interview that I did with loom knitting phenomenon Isela Phelps! Here’s a link to it on my website: http://www.creativehelps.com/interviews_3.htm#ANOTHER_COLORFUL_LIFE_~_ISELA_PHELPS

Thanks, Greg 🙂 I actually read through your interview earlier today. Nicely written. Isela is just awesome and I’m so touched by what she said. You have a great blog, btw. Have a great day!
hi there, hope all is well. ive been trying to knit up some socks with this pattern but got stuck at the heel. we use the flat stitch for the leg, what stitch do we use for the heel? also the flat stitch or do we go back to knit and purl?
Many thanks!
Hi there! You will just want to continue working in flat knit or u-wrap. The first six rows are the only ones you will work a knit and purl combination. Those rows make the cute little fold down cuff. The rest of the little slipper is just stockinette. Hope that helps 🙂
thank you 🙂
Anytime 🙂
This is a great pattern for the heel. I am going to try to increase it by the invisible peg method found on youtube to see if this will fit my 4 year old boy. Wish me luck!
Thank you, Stacey! I’m glad you like it. Good luck with your slippers =)
I made two pairs of these footsies. I was confused on the heel part. It didn’t register into my brain that I had to go back and forth, so when it said 5-2 at first I went all the way around.
When I was making my second pair I realized to go back and forth on the heel. They turned out really cute. This is a really easy project. I had fun making them.
I am also thankful you had the lets learn part on your site because I never heard of a U wrap or flat panel knit. They work a lot better than the regular E wrap to keep it flat and workable.
I’m so glad you had fun making these. And I’m glad the Let’s Learn section of this blog came in handy. Have a great day!
I am expcting my 2nd grandbaby in November andwould LOVE to make some f these but I am a beginner in look knitting, I mean I did scarfs and hts last year and that was about it.. Is there a youtube video on these, I am not sure about some of the abbrveations used? Thanks for such a wonder bootie…
Hi there! Congrats on the expected grand-baby 🙂 I do not have a video on these little booties. It’s really hard to pin down enough quiet time to make tutorial clips around here. It’s something I’ll maybe look at doing in the future, but not right now. I do know there was a loom knit slipper tutorial video on youtube. Here is a link to the tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/user/mistideveau?feature=watch On the abbreviations, you can actually find a list of commonly used abbreviations (from the Loom Knitter’s Circle webzine) here: http://lkc.typepad.com/Abbreviations.pdf Hope that helps and thanks for your comment =)
Hi, I’m not sure I get this. (lift stitch on peg 6, wrap peg, and replace stitch.) Will I end up having 2 loops on the peg? Thanks so much, Maggie
I made one booty today. Turned out precious. Disregard my question above. I got help with it. Now, I need to know where to buy the large 12 peg loom. I used the flower loom. I’ve checked Amazon and other places, so not sure where I can purchase it. These are the cutest booties I’ve seen and the easiest to make. Thank you so much, Maggie
I know we communicated about this over on Ravelry, but I thought I’d copy my reply to you and post it here for anyone else that might stumble across this and have the same question 🙂
Hey, Maggie – I sent you a message in reply to your comment on the needle knit booties. But, I thought I’d send you a link to the Knifty Knitter Flower Loom, so you can see it. I’m sure it’s the loom you already have 😉
Here is one for sale through he Knitting Warehouse:
http://store.knitting-warehouse.com/073867.html?cmp=froog…
Knifty Knitter actually sold their loom line to the Boye company. So, you can find the 12 peg flower loom through the Boye company as well, but many loom knitters don’t like the pegs on the new version as much.
Hope that helps. Have a great night!
Jenny
btw, I’m glad your booties turned out so well and that you enjoyed the pattern =)
iam having a heard time learn how to do the heal dont understand it is that stitch on yurtube
Hi there! I don’t have any tutorial videos, but Isela Phelps has a great video tutorial on creating a short row heel on a knitting loom. You can find it here:
Hope that helps 🙂
I had troubles closing the bootie so please help me
I just made one bootie… very easy with your other stiche tutorials. Only my second project. My daughter is excited about some socks for her baby!!
Oh, how fun 🙂 My little gal has wound up with a few pairs of these for her dolls and teddy bears, haha. Thank you for commenting. Have a great weekend!
Not sure what I did wrong, but I made one of these today and it just fits my four-year-old daughter. Way too big for baby #2 due in April. I used three strands of soft baby yarn. Any advice?
I will go ahead and make another, so she can have a pair. But I’d like to make baby-sized ones too, to match the hat I’ve already knitted.
Hmm, I’m not sure. Did you use the 12 peg Knifty Knitter Flower Loom? It is this one:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/115440012/knifty-knitter-flower-loom-and-weave?utm_source=googleproduct&utm_medium=syndication&utm_campaign=GPS&gclid=CJvC4oKh37QCFQVgMgodyi4A2w
If you did use the 12 peg flower loom, check the weight of your yarn. You want a light sport weight if you are using the 3 strands called for in the pattern.
Beyond that, I’d guess it might be that your knitting tension is much looser than mine.
You are more than welcome to reply here, or you could email me directly at jenniferkstark@msn.com, if you’d like. Have a great night!
Yup, exact same loom. I’ll try knitting tighter and see if that makes a big enough difference.
What do you think would happen if I did 5 rounds instead of 10 for the foot and ankle sections?
You could definitely give that a try. Tweaking a pattern to make it work better for you is not against the rules, as far as I know 😉 If it is, I’m in big trouble, haha. I modify patterns all the time (even my own designs). Good luck with your next pair of booties.
I love this pattern! I finally have grandchildren on the way and I was never good at booties, I’m so happy to be able to make them now. I hope you don’t mind, I made a video while I made the booties. I made sure to give you credits on the video. Is that all right? It’s on my YT channel here at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jOVrH6BygA
Thank you Pam 🙂 I have a very busy household and it’s not very often quiet enough to do a video so I’m sure many loom knitters will appreciate yours. I’ll have to check it out. Thank you for making sure to credit me in the tutorial. Have a great day!
Tried and tried to no avail! Keep having holes in the heel! Suggestions as to what I am doing wrong…
I’m sorry to hear this, Linda. During the short row process, are you lifting the stitch before wrapping the peg to turn and go back in the opposite direction? Lifting the stitch and placing the wrap below it should be closing up any holes when you later knit the stitch and the wrap off together.
Thank you so much! Can’t wait to try it!
You are welcome 🙂 Good luck!
im getting holes. when doing the footies too
this is what im doing
i lay the wool over the peg. then lift the loop over the wool and off the peg ie. flat kniting stich not e wrap
so not sure what im doing wrong but one side seems ok. the other has holes
i have used both. chunky in. test 1 and 2 strands of double knitting in test 2 still the same problem
can u. show some photos of how u did it please
im in uk so not sure which wool is the same as u used
with this work on a boye flower loom ?
This pattern will work on any large gauge round loom with 12 pegs. The Boye Flower Loom is actually a replacement to the Knifty Knitter Flower Loom so you should be able to create these slippers on your Boye Flower Loom. Have fun 🙂
i was. using. boye and kniffty knitter flower looms. there both 12 pegs as. mentioned in the pattern
How many can you make with 191 yds with baby booties and how many yds dose one make
Melinda, I am not sure. You should be able to get several pairs out of one skein of baby yarn.
These are the only booties I can make and they look look precious. I even made one in red/white as a tiny Christmas stocking. I LOVE this pattern. I don’t do the toe part. I stop at the foot on my booties. Thank you so much for sharing this. They always turn out perfect. Can you tell I love them? 😉
Minus one *look* above 🙂
I’m so glad that you are having fun making these little booties. I’ll bet the Christmas stocking was totally cute, too. Makes me think it might be fun to make a few in a wool yarn and then felt them into little mini stockings 🙂
Hello do you know the gauge for this pattern? I want to make sure my yarn is ok.
Hi there, Erica. Sorry for not replying sooner. I didn’t catch your comment until just now. For this pattern, you can use
3 or 4 strands of baby yarn (like a fingering to sport weight),
or two strands of worsted weight yarn,
or one strand of a bulky yarn.
Any of those should work out well. Hope that helps 🙂
Thank You!!! I’m new at looming and I’m having so much fun making these botties:) so cute!
Hi there, Darcy 🙂 I’m so glad you are having fun making these. Thanks for your comment. Have a great day!
Hello. thanks for the great pattern, I have tried a few. and they never turned out, right. was practicing one with your pattern turned out perfect. so instead of a practice
i have one slipper finished for my friend that just had a baby girl. so many thanks catz 60=Debbie
So glad the pattern worked so well for you 🙂 Thanks for your kind comment.
So happy I found this pattern (Loom Idiot tutorial using this pattern on YouTube) as I wanted to make booties to match the baby beanies I did for my baby. It is my due date today and I have one more bootie to make to make 3 sets. Thank you for sharing with us all!
Blessings,
Dea

Such an amazing pattern! Now I am savvy enough to make booties to match the baby beanies I make.. Doing a happy dance (well in my mind anyway as it’s my due date today and my body is aching LOL)
Hello, I’m looking forward to making some of these for baby number two that’s due in December. I was wondering what size these are for? Some people I see are saying it fits their four year old. I’m looking for newborn to three months at the moment.
Thanks!
Hi love the pattern and it was very easy for me a new loomer to follow thank you and what size are these baby booties for thank you
Hello! I’m glad you liked the pattern. I would probably categorize these little baby slippers as 0-3 months. Hope that helps!
[…] quickly and the pattern is so well written and easy. The free pattern can be found at https://guppylovesshark.wordpress.com/2011/03/02/flower-loom-footsies/ if you would like to try […]
I have a flower loom and now I know what I can make with it, besides flowers! These would be terrific as I make things for NICUs and newborns. 🙂
Thank you for posting this! 🙂
What a cute pattern! Thank you very much! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
I woul love to see a video tutorial for these. Soooo cute!
